The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) proudly announces the recipients of the 2023 Lifetime Membership Award, recognizing longstanding members for their special and sustained contributions to the Society and the profession.

“Our veteran members have been pivotal in the success of ASID. With contributions spanning decades toward everything from legislation and designer advocacy, to leadership roles and active committee participation, the honorees have shown their unwavering commitment to shaping and inspiring the profession,” said Khoi Vo, chief executive officer, ASID. “This illustrious award celebrates their remarkable careers and commemorates the influence each honoree has made on ASID, furthering our mission to impact lives through design.”

ASID Chapters nominated and recommended professional members of at least 25 years; from these nominations, four honorees were selected for the 2023 Lifetime Membership Award.

This year’s recipients are Donna Jarnigan, ASID, RID, Linda Sorrento, FASID, LEED Fellow, IIDA, NCIDQ, RID, Phyllis Moore, FASID, NCIDQ, RID and Kaye Christiansen Englert, FASID, NCIDQ, CAPS.

The 2023 Lifetime Membership Award Recipients:

Donna Jarnigan, ASID, RID | ASID Texas Gulf Coast Chapter

Jarnigan began her design career in 1971, before ASID’s start in 1975. She joined ASID to be more involved with her professional peers and to promote ASID and the profession. She was inducted as a professional member of ASID’s Texas Gulf Coast chapter (TGCC) in 1993 and has continued to be an influential force thirty years later. Jarnigan’s involvement in a variety of committees and ASID fundraisers started when she joined ASID and shortly after, she was appointed as chair and co-chair for many of the Society’s most important committees including ASID Awards, ASID Programs, ASID Showhouses, ASID Bazaar, Habitat for Humanity, Strategic Planning, ASID Foundation, ASID Directory & Website. Jarnigan is also ASID’s longest running Lead Chair to the Special Recognition and Awards Committee. As Chapter President, Jarnigan served during the reconstruction of ASID and ASID Chapter Boards serving a four-year tenure as President Elect, President Elect Elect, President, and Past President. She has been awarded numerous ASID and ASID-TGCC Awards including ASID 2012 Medalist.

Linda Sorrento, FASID, LEED Fellow, IIDA, NCIDQ, RID | ASID Carolinas Chapter

Sorrento has been an interior designer, educator, and advocate for almost five decades. Her deep concern for how interior environments impact human health and performance has informed her interior design journey since its start in 1975 when she joined ASID as a charter member. After advancing to Chapter Leadership, Chapter Support Team, and then National Board of Directors, Sorrento found her role at the U.S Green Building Council (USGBC), spearheading the organization's market transformation efforts as Senior Director of LEED for Commercial Interiors and Education Partnerships. She developed REGREEN residential remodeling guidelines in partnership with ASID and USGBC to propel residential interior design to the forefront of sustainability. In recognition for her national service, Sorrento was inducted into the ASID College of Fellows and USGBC LEED Fellow for her immeasurable impact on the built environment. She holds the ASID Nancy Vincent McClelland Merit Award and the mindful MATERIALS Visionary Leadership Award among many other honors. Today, Sorrento contributes to holistic sustainability platforms as acting Chief Operations Officer of mindful MATERIALS, ASID Climate, Health, and Equity Steering Committee Member, and Co-Author of the ASID INSIGHTS Briefs.

Phyllis Moore, FASID, NCIDQ, RID | ASID Alabama Chapter

Moore received a bachelor’s degree in interior design from the University of Alabama and has been the owner of Interior Design Source, LLC in Decatur, Alabama since 1976. She became an ASID student member in 1971 and has maintained ASID membership since that time. Moore, a charter member of the Alabama Interior Design Coalition, has actively promoted interior design legislation for over 25 years and was president of AIDC when the Alabama Practice Act was passed in 2001. She is NCIDQ Certified, a professional member and Fellow of ASID and has served numerous chapter and National ASID board positions, chairing the ASID Student Advisory Council, Legislative Advisory Council and Step Committee. Moore served on the Chapter Support Team and was a member of the ASID National Board. Other achievements and awards include the Jack Davis Outstanding Alumni award from the University of Alabama College of Human Environmental Sciences, the ASID National Merit Award as well as three ASID national Presidential Citations, a Lifetime Achievement Award and two Outstanding Chapter member Awards from the Alabama chapter. She has served on the NCIDQ IDEP committee, as an ASID STEP instructor, and currently serves on the NCIDQ Peer Review Committee, NeoCon Program Advisory Committee, University of North Alabama Interior Design Advisory Board and as a Q Prep instructor.

Kaye Christiansen Englert, FASID, NCIDQ, CAPS | ASID Intermountain Chapter

Englert graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in interior design in 1977, passed the NCIDQ Examination in 1979 and has been a member of ASID since. Englert has practiced Interior Design for over 45 years, creating timeless, published and award-winning designs. She founded Christiansen Englert Design Associates in 1987, incorporated as Design Plus, Inc. in 1996 offering a full scope of professional interior design services, transforming spaces and lives through creative custom design for a variety of sectors including healthcare, commercial, residential, kitchens, baths and even corporate jets. Englert has served as ASID Chapter President and on the National Board of Directors. Additionally, she has served on the National Board of Directors and the Executive Committee as Rocky Mountain Regional Vice President over Arizona North, Arizona South, Colorado, New Mexico and Intermountain Chapters. Englert co-founded IDEAL for Utah (Interior Design Education and Legislation) a Coalition in 2008 and was instrumental in the passage of Senate Bill 117 into law, in favor of state certified commercial interior designers, into law in 2016 and through Sunset Review in 2021. Englert was elected to the ASID College of Fellows in 2018. She currently serves as Chapter Government Affairs Chair and serves as Chapter President once again in 2024.
